Arsenal 'eyes striker swoop' as 'bid accepted' for $54m Liverpool transfer target

Liverpool rivals round-up: The Reds could be about to miss out on a talented defender. Arsenal is reportedly looking to bolster its attacking options this summer.

Liverpool and its Premier League rivals will be looking to strengthen in attempts to improve on this season's performances. It was a fine campaign for many but it ended in familiar fashion with Manchester City as champions.

Pep Guardiola's men could yet claim the double and are clear favorites going into this weekend's FA Cup final against rivals Manchester United. The match is United's last chance of qualifying for Europe, with the pressure firmly on Erik ten Hag.

United is reportedly considering a change of manager this summer as it bids to close the gap on those teams at the top following Sir Jim Ratcliffe's recent investment.

With Liverpool having now confirmed Arne Slot as its new head coach, all eyes are on the other title challengers to see what steps they will take. Here, Liverpool.com takes a scan around the Premier League and across the continent to see what's going on at Liverpool's rivals as Arsenal bid to go one better next term by adding a goalscoring machine.

Arsenal eyes striker swoop?

Arsenal reportedly has a striker at the top of its transfer wish list as it bids to go one better in next season's title race. The Gunners missed out by two points to Manchester City on the final day of the campaign.

Kai Havertz led the line for much of the season but Arsenal is eager to sign an out-and-out No.9 before pre-season, reports The Independent. It is claimed that Newcastle striker Alexander Isak is the top target.

Newcastle hopes Isak will sign a new deal at St. James' Park but Arsenal does have the lure of Champions League football. Ajax striker Brian Brobbey is seen as an alternative option to the Sweden international, as is international colleague Viktor Gyökeres.

Brobbey has scored 22 goals in 42 matches this season while Gyökeres has also taken the Portuguese league by storm after arriving from Sporting CP.

Arsenal pushed City all the way in the title race and it is clear Mikel Arteta believes signing a new striker could make all the difference. Isak has been a revelation at Newcastle and would be an excellent addition. Gyökeres was previously linked with Liverpool but that was largely down to managerial speculation over Rúben Amorim.
