Liverpool transfer news as $65m 'move made' and Bayern Munich to battle for 21-goal ace
Liverpool transfer news as Michael Edwards supposedly makes a $65m move for a Leipzig star with a release clause. Meanwhile, there is competition from Bayern Munich.
Liverpool won't make wholesale changes to its squad this summer — after all, why fix what isn't broken? — but Arne Slot can expect to have a couple of new faces among his roster by the time the new campaign kicks off.
Chiefly on the priority list should be a center-back but there is a strong argument that can be made for signing players in the midfield and the attack as well. Liverpool can, frankly, never have too much depth and quality. The injury crisis that engulfed most of this season explains why that is the case.
Here is the verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, including a very familiar name for frequenters of the gossip columns. There is also news of a move being made for another emerging Leipzig star with a release clause.
Federico Chiesa (Juventus)
Is it really a transfer window without Federico Chiesa being linked with a transfer to Liverpool? He's the modern day Pablo Aimar in that he is consistently linked but it never happens — and don't bet on that changing this time.
On this occasion, it is the Italian newspaper Tuttosport (its print edition, via Football Italia) claiming that there is interest from the Reds. Liverpool, AS Roma, Napoli and Bayern Munich are also said to be keen on the winger, who has scored 21 goals in four years at Juventus.
Chiesa is out of contract in 2026 and the Old Lady would supposedly like to cash in on the former Fiorentina forward. While he has impressed on the international stage, he has never really settled in Turin and has had a lot of injury troubles.
Adding more firepower in attack should be among the priorities for Liverpool this summer but it would be a major surprise if the answer was Chiesa. He is injury-prone and would not be cheap.
