Liverpool transfer news as Arne Slot 'top target' emerges and $59m Euro 2024 star 'discussed'
Liverpool transfer news as two Euro 2024 stars are linked including Jamal Musiala. Arne Slot needs reinforcements ahead of next season but he already has a strong squad.
Liverpool is on the lookout for players that can further upgrade Arne Slot's roster ahead of the new season. Taking over from Jurgen Klopp, the Dutchman has a good group to work with but it can be made even better.
The ECHO reported earlier this week that center-back was NOT a priority for Liverpool, even if Leny Yoro is admired. But that would then beg the obvious question of "What position is?" Most people would say that a new defender is a must with Joel Matip leaving.
Here is the PaperTalk verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, including two players impressing at Euro 2024. The window is open now, but is yet to explode into life.
Nico Williams (Athletic Club)
Spain winger Nico Williams has arguably been the standout player at Euro 2024 so far and he could be on the move this summer. He has a release clause worth $59m (£47m/€55m) written into his contract though it seems unlikely Liverpool would sign him unless Luis Diaz was to leave. Even then, Williams is on big money in La Liga and would command a significant salary.
According to The Athletic, Williams has been 'discussed' by Liverpool if the Reds decide to move for a forward this summer. He scored 19 times last season in 37 appearances. While his price tag can't skyrocket due to his performances at Euro 2024, the list of interested clubs just might.
Williams has been linked with a move to Anfield for some time and he certainly looks exciting. He has that Sadio Mane change of pace that can see him go past a defender in a flash, even from a standing start.
Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich)
Germany playmaker Jamal Musiala has not signed a new contract yet (his current deal expires in 2026) and the Daily Mirror reports that he is Liverpool's 'top target' this summer. Starring at Euro 2024, the former Chelsea academy man is a huge talent.
Musiala was described as 'magical' by Gary Lineker this week and he rejected a contract offer from Bayern Munich earlier this year. As a result, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea are all said to be sniffing around him.
Even if Bayern Munich was minded to cash in on Musiala, he would cost an absolute fortune. Liverpool should be keen if he does move, but it seems a pretty unlikely deal to be able to pull off.
