Bukayo Saka injury: Arsenal dealt fitness concern as star limps off during England loss

Gunners lost captain Martin Odegaard to injury during last month’s break

Arsenal have been dealt a major concern after Bukayo Saka was forced off during England’s Nations League defeat to Greece on Thursday night.

The Gunners star formed part of an attacking line-up named by interim manager Lee Carsley on a night where taking the supposed handbrake off did not seem to work.

Saka lined up alongside the likes of Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon and Cole Palmer at Wembley but a disjointed England side lost 2-1 to the Greeks.

The winger limped off just six minutes into the second-half, sitting down on the turf after Greece were celebrating their opener.

Saka was then replaced by Noni Madueke and it remains to be seen if he will be fit for Sunday’s game against Iceland.

Bellingham thought he had rescued a point in the dying embers for England after Vangelis Pavlidis had given the visitors the lead, before the Greece striker bagged a late second.

Arsenal lost Martin Odegaard to an ankle injury during last month’s international break and return to Premier League action away at Bournemouth on Saturday 19 October.

Interim England manager Lee Carsley has provided an update on Bukayo Saka after the forward limped off during the Nations League defeat to Greece on Thursday night.

The Arsenal star lasted only six minutes in the second-half before making an early exit on a truly disappointing night for the Three Lions.

Carsley named an attacking lineup, including Saka alongside the likes of Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon and Cole Palmer.

Despite the vast array of attacking talents, the hosts failed to click and were fortunate to have seen their visitors denied by VAR on multiple occasions.

They still managed to claim a memorable 2-1 victory at Wembley as Carsley’s change in system fell flat on its face.

The sight of Saka going off will be of huge concern to the Gunners, who lost Martin Odegaard to an ankle injury during last month’s international break.

Speaking after the game, Carsley said: “He’s being assessed.

“In the build-up to the first goal, you could see he felt something in his leg.”
