West Ham 0-1 Liverpool 37:  SUB!  Gomez isn't going to be able to continue, so Quansah is coming into the action.  West Ham 0-1 Liverpool 36: Gomez is down getting some treatment. Is that his hamstring he's clutching as he goes down?  With Konate still out, Liverpool won't want another injury in that area of the pitch.  Meanwhile West Ham's players are over on the sideline getting instructions from Lopetegui.

It is indeed a back four. Coufal right-back. Wan-Bissaka at left-back up against Salah. Emerson playing ahead of him as part of a five-man midfield. 4-1-4-1.  Five minutes until kick-off! Trent Alexander-Arnold sends message to Liverpool fans after Real Madrid news Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has taken to social media to share images from their 3-1 Premier League win over Leicester after reportedly telling the club he wants to join Real Madrid. According to Spanish outlet Marca, the 26-year-old has told his boyhood club that he has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid and won’t be signing a new deal. Alexander-Arnold is one of three key Liverpool players, alongside Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who are out of contract at the end of the season. Arne Slot has worked wonders since replacing Jurgen Klopp in the summer despite the ongoing contract issues, guiding Liverpool to the top of both the Premier League and the Champions League league phase. Liverpool took full advantage of Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham in an earlier Boxing Day fixture to extend their lead at the top. The home side took a surprise lead through Jordan Ayew after just six...

GOAL! Arsenal 1-0 Ipswich (Havertz, 23) Arsenal find their breakthrough

Image
Arsenal 1-0 Ipswich "I was just observing just how much tracking Sam Szmodics has had to do so far in this game as he tried to play out from the back building up to Arsenal regaining possession on the near touchline.  "He was visibly blowing, and you imagine those Ipswich thighs are burning from the amount of pressure they were having to absorb. "Arsenal quickly going in search of a second." Arsenal 1-0 Ipswich "A 12th goal of the season for Havertz. Trossard did well, bursting past Johnson on the left and delivering a wicked cross, although Ipswich will feel they should have defended it better." GOAL! Arsenal 1-0 Ipswich (Havertz, 23) Arsenal find their breakthrough! Ipswich's resistance is broken as Trossard keeps the ball alive on the left to steal a yard on Ben Johnson to produce a delicious ball low and hard that is swept high into the net by the elusive Kai Havertz. GOAL! Liverpool 2-1 Leicester (Jones, 49)

Image
Liverpool 2-1 Leicester 50: It's a tight one. The lines are being drawn. In fact, there's multiple checks ongoing. Still we await the outcome.  GOAL GIVEN. LIVERPOOL LEAD FOR THE FIRST TIME. Liverpool 2-1 Leicester "A well-worked Liverpool goal but there's a VAR check ongoing for offside." GOAL! Liverpool 2-1 Leicester (Jones, 49) Comeback complete.  Salah with some neat feet to find Mac Alisster's run inside the box, before Jones applies the controlled first-time finish. VAR is checking for offside - and so we wait for confirmation. Liverpool 1-1 Leicester 48: Liverpool are stacking up these corners. And they're sticking with the ploy to line up back post and make a dart forwards as the ball is swung in. So far, zero efforts have come close to working.  Liverpool 1-1 Leicester 47:  CLOSE!  Nunez lifts one over the bar from six yards. The run across Coady was decent - the finish less so. Nice cutback from Gravenberch.

GOAL! Liverpool 1-1 Leicester (Gakpo, 45+1)

Image
Liverpool 1-1 Leicester "Really bright half from Gakpo, drifting in off the left and making a nuisance of himself. The way he glided past Justin for the goal was superb - very direct, very clinical. He's been Liverpool's most effective player."  GOAL! Liverpool 1-1 Leicester (Gakpo, 45+1) WOWZERS. That's some strike.  Gakpo chops inside, beats Justin with ease, and bends a wonderful finish beyond Stolarczyk at full stretch. A bit of magic to draw Liverpool level. Liverpool 0-1 Leicester 44:  CROSSBAR!  Salah smashes the upright. He wraps his boot around a curler but the crossbar comes to Stolarczyk's rescue. Liverpool 0-1 Leicester 42: Ayew takes a booking for taking down Gakpo. And now Liverpool can load the box, with Robertson over the free kick from a promising position. Oh dear. That isn't what he intended at all. The ball runs almost directly out of play. Plenty of food for thought for Arne Slot at half time.  Liverpool 0-1 Leicester ...

GOAL! Liverpool 0-1 Leicester (Ayew, 6)

Image
GOAL! Liverpool 0-1 Leicester (Ayew, 6) Well, that wasn't in the script. Smart run from Mavididi, and he teases a delivery beyond Gravenberch, allowing Ayew to spin and sweep past Alisson. Robertson didn't get close enough, nor Van Dijk - the strike takes a nick before squeezing inside the post. And the result is that Leicester have an early, shock lead. Liverpool 0-1 Leicester "An Arsenal-like approach from Liverpool on those corners as their players gather at the back post before running across goal to try to meet the delivery. But Leicester clear their lines." Liverpool 0-1 Leicester 14: Justin nods Trent's whipped delivery behind for a corner. Good defensive intervention, because red shirts were lurking. And now there is some sort of set-play routine being teed up. Five or six players line up at the back post, awaiting Trent's cross, which is dealt with by Leicester. Not sure that quite worked as intended. Liverpool 0-1 Leicester Not much in th...

NEWS Andy Robertson to serve one-match suspension

Image
NEWS Andy Robertson to serve one-match suspension Andy Robertson will serve a one-match suspension after being sent off in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Fulham. The left-back received a straight red card for a foul that was deemed to have denied the visitors an obvious goalscoring opportunity in the early stages of Saturday's match at Anfield. Unlike yellow cards, red cards are carried over from the Premier League to domestic cup competitions. Robertson will therefore be banned for the Reds' Carabao Cup quarter-final tie at Southampton on Wednesday, but will be available for Sunday's top-flight visit to Tottenham Hotspur.

Defensive absentees have been a regular occurrence for the Gunners this season with Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Gabriel Magalhaes and Riccardo Calafiori among those currently out. Given the main problems are all in one specific area, Arteta was asked about the possibility of recruiting in January with his answer certainly a telling one. “The window gives us an opportunity to strengthen the team if we feel that is needed and we feel that we have the capacity to do that as well,” he said. “We are on it and just have to assess the situation because it is changing every week. At the moment not for the better, but I’m positive that in a few ...

Dusan Vlahovic sends Arsenal transfer reminder as Man City woes deepen While Arsenal were comfortably beating Monaco in North London, Dusan Vlahovic was playing a crucial role for Juventus in Turin Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic was back among the goals on Wednesday night as the Italian club beat Manchester City 2-0 in the Champions League. The Serbian striker was once a man in demand having caught the attention of a host of Europe's top clubs while at Fiorentina. At that time, Arsenal were thought to be weighing up a move for the physically imposing centre-forward but they would be dashed in their attempts to sign him. Vlahovic would choose to remain in Italy and join Juve where he has enjoyed a good career to date. This season he has managed nine goals in 17 appearances with his latest coming against City. He opened the scoring on the 53rd minute as his close-range header had too much on it for Ederson to keep out. Weston McKennie's acrobatic finish...

Andy Robertson: Not our best but it's all about winning games

Image
Andy Robertson: Not our best but it's all about winning games Andy Robertson was pleased by Liverpool maintaining their winning streak in the Champions League despite not being at their best against Girona. The Reds ground out a 1-0 victory away at Estadi Montilivi on Tuesday evening, making it six successes out of six in the league phase so far this season. Image
Liverpool XI vs Girona: Predicted lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Champions League today Alisson back in Reds squad for Spain trip, but still no Diogo Jota or Federico Chiesa Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has confirmed he has no plans to rotate his side tonight against Girona. The Reds currently sit top of the Champions League table after amassing maximum points from their five games thus far, having made light work of Real Madrid last time out in their rousing 2-0 victory at Anfield. While Slot’s side were handed a weekend off after Saturday’s Merseyside derby clash at Everton was postponed following Storm Darragh hitting the UK, the fact that Liverpool are in such a good position could have afforded a potential chance for rotation. Image
Alexander Isak to Arsenal early transfer verdict - £80m deal, Newcastle demand, Gabriel Jesus swap Arsenal will be linked with a number of strikers in the January transfer window as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his squad Arsenal may well enter the transfer market for a striker in January. The Gunners looked at signing a frontman in the summer, but it was not until deadline day that they brought in Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea. The Gunners are the joint third highest scorers in the Premier League so far this season, with 28 goals in 14 matches, averaging two per game. But they do not hav anyone in the top ten goalscorers' list, with Kai Havertz the top scorer on five. The transfer plan in the summer was not to go for an out-and-out striker, with the club feeling like Havertz and Gabriel Jesus could carry the burden. Jesus has yet to get off the mark this season and if there was one area the Gunners would look to improve in January, you would think...

And that only makes the temptation to add a player in January even stronger to give the team another boost.
