Gunners target Paris comeback mission in decisive semi-final second-leg showdown

Rescue bid: Arsenal must overturn a first-leg deficit against PSG at the Parc des Princes tonight

PSG vs Arsenal LIVE!

Arsenal will attempt to reach the Champions League final tonight for the first time in 19 years as they bid to produce a historic comeback in Paris. The Gunners head to France with it all to do to tee up a showpiece fixture against Inter Milan in Munich on May 31 after a below-par performance last week saw them narrowly lose the semi-final first leg on home soil, with Ousmane Dembele’s fourth-minute goal proving the difference at the Emirates Stadium.

Dembele is fit for this evening’s all-important decider after recovering from a hamstring injury, while Arsenal have Thomas Partey back from suspension and the likes of Martin Odegaard and Jurrien Timber having shaken off knocks, allowing Mikel Arteta to revert back to what he hopes will be a more dangerous attacking lineup.

History is against the visitors tonight, with only two teams ever recovering from losing a semi-final first leg at home to then go on and reach the Champions League final. Follow PSG vs Arsenal live below, with expert analysis from Standard Sport’s Simon Collings and Malik Ouzia at the Parc des Princes.

Dembele to start on the bench - reports

French outlet RMC Sport are reporting that Ousmane Dembele will start on the bench for tonight’s match.

The Frenchman scored the only goal in the first leg. Will he play the supersub role tonight?

Who is tonight's referee?

Felix Zwayer will be tonight’s main official, but why is he a controversial choice?

He was banned in 2005 as he was found to be at the centre of a match-fixing scandal after accepting a bribe from a fellow referee.

Jude Bellingham had spoken out against him while at Borussia Dortmund. After a loss to Bayern Munich, he told ViaPlay: “You give a referee, that has match fixed before, the biggest game in Germany. What do you expect?”

He has served his time, though, and is now considered to be one of Europe’s best referees, taking charge of four matches at Euro 2024 last summer.

Onus on the captain?

Martin Odegaard has not quite been at his best this season, and he must bear the weight of the captain’s armband under the lights at the Parc des Princes tonight.

As Standard Sport’s Malik Ouzia writes, the assessment is this: Odegaard’s underwhelming performances have been symbolic of Arsenal’s worrying Premier League drop-off either side of huge European matches over which he has not had the influence he, or anyone else, would like.

Arteta: “We are here to make history."

Mikel Arteta espoused defiant confidence in his pre-match press conference. Here’s some of what he had to say:

“We are a win away from being in the Champions League final, in one of the most beautiful cities in the world against a great opponent - it doesn’t get much better than that.”

“You’re going to get remembered for those moments. The biggest stage is when the team needs it, when the club needs it, to deliver those moments.”

“I mean, again, one win away from being in the final. Let’s not do the talking, let’s do tomorrow on that pitch at 9pm when the game starts. So best, best, best, best version and win the game.”

Declan Rice knows exactly what Arsenal need

The England midfielder was on media duties ahead of the second leg, and said Arsenal need to rise to the occasion as they did at the Bernabeu.

“You’re going to need a moment of magic to win a game ... hopefully we can deliver something special,” he said.
