Rodrygo to Arsenal transfer latest - Liverpool bid, three new rivals, £87m Real Madrid decision
Arsenal transfer news as Liverpool's potential interest in Rodrygo leaves Mikel Arteta with a big decision tomake
Arsenal hopes of landing Real Madrid star Rodrygo this summer have taken a hit with reports in Spain claiming that Liverpool have opened talks to sign the forward.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Brazilian as Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta explore the opportunities to improve their attack for next season. Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke are closing in on moves to the Emirates Stadium but further firepower could still be added before the window closes.
The forward played a limited role in Real Madrid's Club World Cup campaign to raise questions about his future.
football.london has taken a look at all of the latest headlines around the Brazilian's potential switch to Arsenal.
Liverpool 'interest'
Arsenal's interest in Rodrygo is facing a significant challenge as Liverpool have reportedly re-entered the fray for the Brazilian's signature.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that the Merseyside club 'appreciate' Rodrygo and have 'expressed formal interest', although no bid has been tabled as of yet.
This development follows Liverpool's refusal of a £58.6 million offer from Bayern Munich for Luis Díaz, who has caught the eye of the Bundesliga giants after shining for the Reds.
Liverpool are keen to retain the 28-year-old Colombian, valuing him at more than £86.8m, despite Diaz's apparent desire to exit Anfield with two years remaining on his contract.
If Díaz were to leave, it could potentially give Liverpool an advantage in the race for Rodrygo, complicating matters for Arsenal.
Three new rivals 'emerge'
Spanish newspaper AS and ESPN have reported that Liverpool have opened talks with Los Blancos to sign Rodrygo.
No official offer has been made but AS have suggested one worth €100million (£86.7m) is possible. Bayern Munich are also said to be keen with Arsenal, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain all keeping tabs on the situation.
It's claimed that Liverpool will pursue a move depending on the future of Luis Diaz. The forward has been the subject of a bid from Bayern Munich with Barcelona and Saudi Arabian clubs also keen.
With Arteta and Berta working on completing deals for Gyokeres and Madueke, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will consider the possibility of paying close to £90m to sign Rodrygo. Eze has a £68m release clause at Palace and would offer versatility.
