Jamie Carragher tips Barcelona as his Champions League favourites


Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher has backed Barcelona to go all the way in this season’s Champions League.

Speaking to CBS Sport, Carragher said: “I’m going to pick Barcelona as my favourites. I was really impressed with them last season and I think they’ll go close again.”

His choice raised eyebrows as he overlooked his former club Liverpool, though he insisted he still expects the Reds to progress deep into the competition.

Barcelona made it to last season’s semi-finals before being eliminated by Inter Milan, while Liverpool exited earlier in the knockouts at the hands of eventual winners PSG.

According to a supercomputer projection, Barcelona have an 8% chance of lifting the trophy, with Real Madrid rated at 6%.
