Liverpool next five fixtures compared to Man City and Arsenal as Jürgen Klopp chance clear

Liverpool beat Brighton 2-1 at Anfield to go three points clear at the top of the Premier League. Here is how the next part of the title run-in will look.

Liverpool has moved three points clear at the top of the Premier League table after beating Brighton. But Manchester City and Arsenal are about to face off at the Etihad Stadium where either side could close the gap and produce a statement performance in the title race.

There was a nervy finish with there only being one goal in it, but Luis Díaz and Mohamed Salah ensured that the three points went to the Reds. It was a big result and a well deserved one on balance.

With nine games left after this weekend, we are well and truly in the final stretch of the campaign. The time to put together a big run of results would be now — but who do each of the Premier League title contenders have left to face? There are some big matches — with Arsenal still having the North London derby, for instance — but the next five will take us right down to the wire.

In that period, Liverpool has more away matches than those at Anfield. Among them is a trip to Old Trafford, where the Reds will be hoping for revenge for that FA Cup quarter-final defeat just a fortnight ago. Also in that next run is a visit to Goodison Park — always a tricky fixture given the nature of that derby.

Pep Guardiola Manchester City faces a trickier run, largely because of being in the Champions League, where it will face Real Madrid, and the FA Cup semi-final, where a game at Wembley against Chelsea awaits. Crystal Palace, at Selhurst Park, will also not be an easy match, though you would fancy Manchester City to win there, at home to Luton, and at Nottingham Forest, relatively easily.

Arsenal and Mikel Arteta have perhaps the easiest run of matches on paper coming up in the league. But they still face Brighton and Aston Villa and there is the question of how they balance playing Bayern Munich home and away around that, setting up a potential Champions League semi-final against Manchester City or Real Madrid down the line. Getting the squad rotated the right amount could be the challenge and this version of the Gunners have not challenged on both fronts before.
