Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak Arsenal transfer reality laid bare amid Newcastle stance
Latest Arsenal transfer news with updates on the future of Newcastle United duo Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes
Arsenal have been sent a firm message in their transfer pursuit of Newcastle United duo Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak. Mikel Arteta has likely already made his plans for the summer and understands the Gunners are unlikely to sanction any similar deals to the £105million Declan Rice transfer from last summer.
Signing one of Isak or Guimaraes could certainly be considered a marquee deal with them, making it increasingly unlikely that either would arrive through the doors of Emirates Stadium. The Brazil international has a £100million release clause active in his contract until the end of June, but Arsenal are unlikely to pay that.
As for Isak, the Magpies have set an eye-watering £180million asking price, which no club can legally afford while still complying with profit and sustainability rules. However, Newcastle could be forced to lower their demands to avoid breaking financial regulations, especially following their major windfall blow.
Through their Premier League position, Newcastle looked to have qualified for the Europa Conference League; however, Manchester United's FA Cup win saw them take a Europa League spot, with Chelsea demoted down to the Conference League and Newcastle missing out entirely as a result.
Despite that, the expectation remains that the duo will stay at St James' Park, but not because Arsenal cannot afford either. “Newcastle fans, listen to this; I have no concerns about Bruno Guimaraes or Alexander Isak leaving the club,” journalist Pete Graves said on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk Podcast.
“I believe that in the opening game of the season they will be striding out in black and white shirts. There’s this £100m release clause in Bruno’s contract; someone would need to trigger that, but he would then want to speak to the club that triggers that. Everything I hear from him, from his dad, they love it; the whole family loves it.”
Guimaraes was rather emotional after the final home clash of the season against Brighton which some took as a sign it was his Newcastle farewell. However, that looks to be far from the truth with the 26-year-old clearly very happy on Tyneside and showing no signs that he wants to move on ahead of the 2024/25 season.
