Arsenal interested in £11.8m Olympian as Champions League winner 'assesses' transfer after talks

The latest Arsenal news as Mikel Arteta's side continue preparations for a new Premier League season

Arsenal's pre-season tour remains ongoing as Mikel Arteta carries on assessing his first-team squad ahead of the 2024/25 season commencing.

The Gunners are looking to build on last season's second-placed finish in the top flight and may well require additional signings to close the gap on reigning champions Manchester City.

Arteta's side are closing in on a deal for Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori and will be hoping the Italian is joined by other fresh faces in the weeks ahead.

Ezequiel Fernandez interest

Arsenal are one of the clubs believed to be plotting a move for Boca Juniors midfielder Ezequiel Fernandez.

Fernandez, who is currently in action for Argentina at the Olympic Games, has "decided to play abroad" despite recently extending his contract with Boca until 2028.

Latest information from ESPN via Bolavip has made clear Arsenal have informed Fernandez's entourage they are interested in acquiring the 22-year-old, though a formal offer is yet to be submitted.

It is added that Atlético Madrid, Brighton, Sevilla, Benfica, Real Betis, Girona, AC Milan and Porto are also eyeing the youngster, who has made a strong impression in a short space of time.

Fernandez would not be the first player to come from the Argentinian top division and later become a success in England. Arsenal would be taking a risk with such a transfer, though the question is whether the potential rewards are worth it. The evidence would suggest Edu and Arteta could take a chance on an individual of this nature, without there being too many negative consequences.
