Arne Slot reveals if Alisson and Trent Alexander-Arnold will be fit for Liverpool vs Real Madrid
Both Alisson and Trent Alexander-Arnold find their names on the Liverpool injury list, and with a huge Champions League game with Real Madrid around the corner, a fitness update has been provided
Arne Slot has revealed Alisson will not be ready ready to take on Real Madrid in the Champions League next week, with a question mark still hanging over the head of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Alisson has been out since the beginning of October, after the Liverpool No. 1 was forced off through injury against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Since then, the Brazilian has not featured for the Reds and will also miss this weekend's Premier League clash against Southampton.
And this absence is expected to extend into the visit of Real Madrid in Europe next Wednesday, with the Dutchman revealing he expects Allison to miss out alongside Diogo Jota.
"For next week? We'll have to wait and see because the last week is always tricky because it's isolated to group sessions so it is difficult to judge," he said. "So I cannot say it will one or two or three days. Alisson and Jota I don't expect them to be fit for that game [Real Madrid].
There was a positive update when it comes to Alexander-Arnold though, with Slot claiming there could be a chance that the full-back could feature against the champions of Europe. "Trent, we will see," the Dutchman added. Alexander-Arnold was subbed off just 25 minutes into Liverpool's 2-0 win against Aston Villa two weeks ago.
He was then forced to withdraw from the England squad, and missed his nation's two victories over Greece and Ireland during the international break last week. Despite the potential of a return in Europe next week, Slot did confirm that his right-back will not be ready for the trip to St. Mary's this weekend.
Despite this, Virgil Van Dijk will be fit to face his former club on the South Coast. We are careful with everyone when it comes to muscle injuries," Slot claimed."Alisson is back in training with the goalkeeper coach and not training with the team but that is expected soon.
"Let's wait and see where he is in terms of match fitness. He is getting better and better but not ready. Virgil is fine, he trained with us today and we expect Trent back soon." Following the trip to Southampton, a huge week awaits the Reds, starting with the clash against Madrid at Anfield.
Liverpool will then return to their home the following Sunday, with their title rivals Manchester City making the trip to Anfield. The Reds currently find themselves five points clear of City, who had gone through a torrid run of form by their high standards prior to the International break.
Pep Guardiola - who has just signed a two-year contract extension at the Etihad Stadium - lost four consecutive games as City manager for the first time, two of those coming in the Premier League in away defeats to Bournemouth and more recently, Brighton and Hove Albion.
